Ready for new adventures with pen and paper

On Friday I took delivery of a new bunch of new sketchbooks from Seawhite. They are the best sketchbooks I have ever used. And they are really, really affordable. I got that lot there, and the ink roller, for 20 quid including postage. They arrived real quick too.

The paper is nice and will even hold watercolour. Unless you flood them completely, then they start to dissolve. But it's not watercolour paper, so that is to be expected. And of course, now I am just rearing to break one of them in. But I am not allowed until I have finished my current one. Them's the rules!

Borders and art supplies

On Monday we went to London (Tony had the day off) to go to the Borders on Oxford Street which unfortunately is closing down. They are having a closing down sale where everything is half price. We should have gone last Monday, though, because it was a bit of a jumble and there weren't really any craft books left.

And boy, being there really reminded me of when Woolworths was closing down. The messy shelves and the cordoned off areas and the vultures picking over the leftovers (only this time I was one of the vultures - I even put something down on a different shelf than the one I found it on!)

So, I didn't get any real craft books but I did pick up a couple of neat books - I'll show and tell about them very soon. Want to read in them a bit more before subjecting you to my opinion about them. ;-)

We also went to Cass Art in Berwick Street (off Oxford Street) so I could buy some paint and stuff. And would you believe my luck, they had a sale on! I probably spent the same on all of this as I would had I ordered the gesso alone online. Which is why I splashed out and bought a whole pack of PITT pens. Yay!

Cass Art really is one of my all time favourite art supply shops. So if you are in the general area and in need of anything to do with drawing or painting, that's the place to go. At the moment they even have Moleskines on sale! Oh and they also carry my favourite sketchbooks, the ones from Seawhite.

Want some threads, dudes?

There's still some left of the sewing threads I 'scored' a little while ago. Mostly black, dark green, dark brown, white and different ivory/magnolia-y colours (100 metre ones). And a single red one! Plus quite a few black, white and ivory 500 metre ones. These are all Sylko. There are also some called Trusew, which I think are made by Coats, in black and white (200 metres).

Email me if you need some thread at a super bargain price. I really, honestly, don't need this much thread! ;-)

My little house is happy

Look, these are the ink pads I got at Hobbycraft at the weekend (they were on offer, £6.99, they'll go up to £9.99, but you might still be able to nab them at the reduced price, if you are so inclined. They are some lovely colours, huh?

This is what they look like in my sketchbook.

And speaking of sketchbooks -or journals- have you heard of the 1000 journals project (journals set free in the world for people to fill in and maybe they come home, maybe they don't). Now there's a new one, the 1001 journals where anyone can send a journal out into the world and you can share with anyone or a group of people.

So I was thinking, would some of you be interested in 'sharing' a journal (sketchbook, whatever you wanna call it)? You don't have to be able to draw or paint or anything. You can collage or write or embroider the pages..anything... Any takers? ;-)

Did I strike gold or what on Tuesday? I was walking down Berwick Street when I stumbled upon a lovely little art supply shop. Of course I had to go in! And look at this: 45 watercolour half pans for £20. Considering I paid 1.35 for a single one in Hobbycraft... Oh yeah, SCORE!

Anyway. The reason my little house is happy is that first it showed up on the fab blog allsorts (which I think you should read!) and then it popped up* on Cuteable (also fab and read-worthy!) It's funny, because it's ages since I made that little house, but lately I've been thinking of plush houses again.

The secret life of Star Wars action figures. Very cool. Can't remember where I found the link...

*Thank you to the lovely Kristal of rikrak for letting me know about this one! :-)
