You are awesome

Thank you so much for all your comments about my table at the craft fair. You are all so bloody nice and now I don't feel nearly as bad about the outcome of the fair. As some of you have said; wrong crowd and/or tasteless crowd. ;-)

I wish you guys could have come to the fair, might have had a different result at the end of the day! Well, let's remedy that, I'd like to invite you to a, er, virtual version of my table. Below are pictures of some of the items available in my shops (I have a few differnt ones, trying to figure out which is the best option..). There's a direct link to each of the listed items below the image, but here are links to each of the shops:

My paintings on Etsy - polar bears, ladies and little girls in their own little universe
The Polka & Bloom Emporium on Etsy - mostly zipper pouches and the magical phone cozies, but other things will soon be there too.
The Polka & Bloom Emporium on Zibbet - lots of different goodies: several softies that are on Sale. Skinny crochet scarves which are also on Sale. Gocco goodies and more!

As a thank you (because you are a-w-e-s-o-m-e!), if you mention the blog in message to seller, I'll send you something nice. Nice stuff for nice people, yay!

Set of 3 Gocco Bookmarks (I love these!)

My head with 3 hairbands. Sorry, my head isn't for sale. ;-)

Some happy shop news

Apart from embroidering up a storm (maybe that's why it's so windy here today? It's kinda scary to listening to the wind howling like it is!) I have also been busy setting up another shop on Etsy. I thought it'd be a bit confusing with embroidery patterns along with other 'stuff' in the same shop. (What do you think?)

So these are some of the items in my new shop, the Polka & Bloom Emporium. They are some of the stock I brought to the craft fair (which I just realise I haven't told you about yet - maybe tomorrow..). For now there's my gocco printed pouches/pencil cases and the Magic Mobile Cozies. Which I love. Love, love, love. I have been using mine for the last... 4 months maybe and it's just one of those things that is so simple and makes me so disproportionately happy.

So I went and did a silly little video of how it works. If it doesn't work for you, here's a link to the video on Flickr.

These were all listed today, more colours will be up later in the week. So you see, I've pretty much got your Christmas presents covered, eh? ;-)

3 patterns for $10

Here's a bit of happy news: you can now buy 3 embroidery patterns for $10, that's pretty much 3 for the price of 2. Not a bad deal at all. Any pattern, nomatter their individual price. Doesn't include Small Stitches the e-book, though. ;-)

By the way, did you know that there is now a 'leftie' version of that very e-book? :-)

How to discourage repeat customers

About a month ago, I bought something on Artfire - to see what that it is like, seeing as I have a wee shop there myself.

Purchase went through fine, as did payment. Then I got an email thanking me for my purchase. Strangely, the email subject title said something like "thank you for your purchase from xxxx on Etsy". Er, ok.

Well, a couple of weeks went by and I didnt receive my order, but I thought, 'well, they are in China so better give it a bit more time before I get in touch'. The other day I finally contacted them and this is their reply:
Dear Carina,

We are so sorry to tell you that your order didn't ship. I just noticed this when you Emailed me. This happened with several Artfire orders. Please accept my apologies! We refunded your money a few minutes ago...

Most Sincerely,
How can you not notice that (several!!) orders haven't shipped? What kind of operation have they got going on? Not a very organised one, it seems, seeing as they can't even keep track of where they get their orders from.

Atleast they simply refunded the money, so I didn't have to argue with them about that or wait for the order to actually be shipped.

I wonder if they don't realise that buying stuff online means that you need to be able to trust the person/company you buy from. If they are this careless, I certainly won't (attempt to) buy from these people again.

Now with pincushions

Oh my, how did this happen? I have a new little shop with pincushions. Because, um, well... I get kinda obsessed with making them and, really, how many pincushions does one person need?

Making pincushions is a fun way to play with different prints and colours. And it's a great way to use some of my thrifted/vintage fabrics. Like that bear in a boat in the top right picture. A bear! In a small sailboat! How cute is that? :-)

Hope you like it. :-)

Sunday sun

Hey!

How are you doing? We are enjoying our holiday to bits! We've just had a few friends round for lunch and cake, which was very nice! Especially when you haven't seen your friends in ages! :-)

Tomorrow is my little sister's birthday - she'll be 30!! That's OLD, man! And obviously, her being younger than me, makes me even older. Yikes! For obvious reasons, we're in Denmark and she's in the US and there doesn't seem to be anyone waiting with a private plane to take us there, so we won't be celebrating with her/them in person. Which totally blows, of course!

So I thought I'd have my own little party - with you! In my Artfire shop (and only the Artfire shop) you can use the following coupon code when you buy any embroidery pattern in the shop: HAPPY30. When you use that code you will get another pattern, of your choice, completely free. Yay! It is only valid today (Sunday Sept. 13) until tomorrow, Sept. 14th. :-)

Hooray for my sister!

Herb patterns

I am so happy to finally be able to tell you that my herb embroidery patterns are now available. I really don't know why I have been so slow with these - they have been ready for a little while!

But anyway, here they are! Five of them: sage, oregano, parsley, chervil and basil. Available in the shop, of course. This week only (until Sunday) you can buy one and get one free, just quote "gimme some free herbs" in note to seller and let me know which free herb you want. :-)

I love them to bits. So far I have embroidered them on tea towels and placemats. I could also see them looking really lovely on a table cloth. But that's a bigger project so that's not going to happen right now... ;-)
I have worked them in either white or some variation of green, but I think it would be pretty to use other colours. Maybe red on pink or white on blue. I guess that's one of the best things about embroidery; it's so versatile. Changing the colour of the size of thread makes for so many different expressions.

Bicycle patterns - BOGOF*

Hey, right now Tony is out there on his bike, clicking down the 60 miles to Southend. In a couple of hours, Tony's dad will come pick me up so we can go meet him at the finish. He is aiming to do the 60 miles in 4 hours or less! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay dry!

As you know, through July I am donating the proceeds from the 2 bicycle patterns to the British Heart Foundation because that is what Tony is doing this bike ride for. I thought I should support my man, right? ;-)

Well, if you've wanted either of the patterns, but haven't got it yet, now's the time to strike! Until 9 pm (UK) tonight you can buy one bicycle pattern and get the other bicycle pattern for free! Click here to see when 9 pm is in your time zone.

Right, you can head over to either the Artfire or Etsy shop or use the Paypal button below.

And now I think I better go get ready and make some sandwiches and stuff. Have a great Sunday whatever you're doing!

*BOGOF = buy one get one freeeeee! ;-)

My not so creative space

My goodness. What was supposed to be an hour's worth of work turned into an all day kind of thing. Just because bloody software wouldn't cooperate! If any of you are Scribus experts, I'd love to hear from you: Scribus keeps crashing, especially when I save a document!

I finally succumbed and downloaded a trial version of InDesign, which I can barely remember how to use, which took a wee bit to install and stuff. Oi. Don't you just hate it when tech misbehaves?

Anyway, I have managed to put together a pattern for the Tree of Life embroidery. Not terribly creative today, but I did play around with different colour ideas and stuff. I have done some cushion covers for my mum which are white embroidery on blue and that's the inspiration for this particular one. I 'owe' her another one, so I may just have to make her one of these. :-)

The pattern is available in my shops (Etsy + Artfire) or you can email me and we can sort it out directly. :-) Anyone who purchases this pattern (until June 30) and quotes "I wanna beat my computer with a stick" will receive an extra little embroidery pattern. :-)

And here's to hopin' that tomorrow is a bit more creative and bit less frustrating!

More folks with more creative spaces!

Red Ridinghood totes

It's Little Red Ridinghood! With her little red cape and her basket with goodies for Grandma. But why she's got 'ears' I really don't know. Maybe there's a bit of a wolf in her too? ;-)

She looks a bit uncertain, but I guess that's only natural if you're about to walk through a wood with a wolf in it!

I played around a bit with there to position her on the bag.

I think this is my favourite so far.

I also quite like this one. Although, is it weird to have more than one Red? I think maybe it could look nice with a few more, a merry band of Reds all together.

There's a couple of bags in the shops (artfire + etsy), but I've also added her to some things in the t-shirt shop. One of them is a kids tee. Very cute. :-)

Happy creative space

My creative space is obviously not on the clothes horse, but here is my granny square blanket, taking a break from being put together. This part of the process is one I could do without, but I have come up with a method of joining the squares that is fairly quick, so another couple of evenings in front of the telly and it should be done. Can't wait to see it finished! :-)

This is my 'actual' creative space today: embroidering and making more Happyscapes while watching Il Postino. Has anyone seen this amazing film? If you haven't, but decide to do it, I strongly recommend watching it with the audio commentary by the director. Makes the film even more special.

I finished 3 Happyscapes today- that's got to be a new record! And I put them in the shops already. Getting 2 hours sleep apparently makes me hyper-active. ;-)

More creative spaces thissa way!

Phone cozies in the shop- hurrah!

Finally got round to listing these phone cozies in the shop. Why so late? Why, only because I've had a hard time prying myself away from the telly and all the, er, Bartlett action. Man, I love the West Wing. Intelligent people babbling on about stuff I have no idea what is. Lovely!

This one (which I love love! I have one myself) is available both on Artfire and Etsy.

On Artfire. It has two colours too, but I just love that ribbon so much and I thought you'd get a kick out of seeing it like this rather than the 'double colour' shot.

Tomorrow we're going to see Angels & Demons - has anyone seen it? Good/bad? Can't wait to see some Roman street scenery on the big screen!

Polka & Bloom bargains

I have set up a tiny shop over at Big Cartel. It is a place for me to sell some of the softies I have made. At a happy reduced price. There's only one of each, once they're gone, they're gone.

If you want to make sure that an item is indeed available (unfortunately, Big Cartel doesn't allow for automatically updating this unless you have a 'premium' shop, which I haven't at present, so bear with me) please email me before buying. :-)

Let's call it my 'outlet' shop, a place to grab yourself a bargain. I'll add more things from time to time. Polka & Bloom @ Big Cartel.

Off to Denmark

This is one of my favourite photos from Rome. This is the Trevi Fountain -in case you didn't know. The photo was taken on a rainy day -stating the obvious- we had walked from our hotel to the Fountain and on the way there black clouds gathered and by the time we got there, it was raining - we didn't have umbrellas, but we'd brought rain ponchos. Which are a very good thing, except that they get wet and when it gets time to take them off again, where do you put it?

But nevermind that. Because it was raining I put my camera under tha poncho and then I thought, well hey, I am going to take pictures like this. I like how it makes the picture seem slightly out of focus. And I also like how it reminds me that being on holiday isn't always ice cream and sunny skies. Holidays are like life in that way.. ;-)

Anyway, why am I posting this now? I have no idea - I guess I just needed a picture for this post. ;-)

However, it does sorta tie in with the fact that we are going on holiday tomorrow - a week in Denmark! Yay! I am so happy. I get to celebrate my birthday (on Sunday) with my parents and my friends. I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday.

I don't know if I'll be posting while we're away, but I have prepared a few posts that will appear as if by magic through the week, so you won't be completely deprived. ;-)

To celebrate my birthday, there's 33% off all items in my shops with a price tag over $10 until Saturday May 2. All you have to do is write 'CAKE' in the message to seller and I'll refund you the 33%. This only applies to the actual item, postage is not included in the reduction. So if you want one of the crochet blankets, now's the time to strike! Artfire shop & Etsy shop.

Rubber ducky not included

I made these two bags a little while ago and only just got round to listing them in the shops.
Green and pink one is here, pink and yellow one is here.

Absolutely perfect for toting around your wips. They are a larger version of the one I made for me a while ago (sorry, I can't be bothered to look for the link ;-) ) and I think I could probably do with a large one like this. Or maybe a larger one!

And don't forget, there is still a couple of days left where 50% of the proceeds from anything in my shop will go to the Italian Red Cross. :-)

Happyscape embroidery pattern revealed!

Here it finally is! My first embroidery pattern. I am so happy about it! It is called Happyscape Spring. Oh what else could it be? I love my little abstract fairytale world of Happyscapes! It is my plan to do more of these, embroidery patterns, not just Happyscape ones (although they are fun to make!)

I loved sketching it all out and inking it (well, as ink-y as it can get on the computer, eh?). Going through my stash of embroidery thread to find the right colours. Stitching my version of it. All good.

It's a special little world, drifting along in a cloud. Fairies live there, I think. In little smurf-like houses; colourful toadstools. Maybe they will offer you a cup of tea in their fairy tea cups?

It's funny, just a few years ago I never in my wildest dreams imagined draming up my own embroidery pattern. And if you had told me so, I think I would have asked you (in the nicest possible way) to F*** off! But here we are, pattern in hand! I don't know if she would have appreciated the image, but I think my grandma would definitely have appreciated the fact of it and the effort. She was a craft genius and even owned her own yarn shop for a number of years!

The pattern is for sale (Artfire + Etsy) and this is what you get in the pattern:

- the original pattern in 2 sizes
Approx. 6.5" x 4.5" and 5.5" x 3.5" - - 16.5 x 11 cm and 13.5 x 9 cm

- the same images in reverse

- enlarged elements from the original pattern (both in a 'right' and 'wrong' version)

- extra patterns using these enlarged elements

- instructions for pattern transfer

- suggestions for stitches and colours to use

Want to win a copy of the pattern?! Leave a comment telling me/everyone about your favourite thing about spring. Please fill in the email thingy so I can contact you! You have from now until Monday.

I want some mini eggs!

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that there are two families of bunny egg cosies available for immediate adoption - so they can keep your eggs warm for Easter! It's next week! Their ridiculous expressions just totally crack me up! Bunnies on the left and right.

Also recently added to the shop: linen pouch with crochet brooch, graphic pincushion (I hand-decorated the fabric), cat pincushion and pouch with tree stencil.

Blanket and Happy Bunnies

Hey! Just a quick post - I have somehow managed to hurt my arm/hand/wrist, so I probalby shouldn't be doing any typing... Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that these happy things of colour have just been listed in my shop.

Yes, the colourful blanket is for sale! It's the only one in the whole world - although I am tempted to make more!

And quick, quick, quick! Get these bunnies to keep your eggs warm for Easter! There's 2 (#1 and #2) sets of four available in these fun Easter-y colours.

Get 'em while they're hot - the 15% off everything is still on - until midnight tonight!

Right, I'm off. Guess I won't be doing any crochet. Bummer!

Lovey-dovey + a sale

Morning, everyone! Today is a pretty cool day, because it is our 6 month-a-versary as married folks. Hurrah! I want to celebrate that with all of you, so there is 15 % off everything in the shop. Everything, seriously. Even the crochet blankets!

And not only is there 15 % off today, but through the weekend! Crazy! Delirious!

These are some of the fun things you can pick up in the Polka & Bloom shop. And I will be adding more things over the weekend.

The discount also applies over at Polka & Bloom shop on Etsy. All prices include the 15%discount.

Wow, you know, I almost can't believe it's been 6 months already since we became Mr and Mrs Tongue. He he. And yet, and yet, it seems so long ago already. So many things have happened in between then and now. But one thing remains constant: that silly Englishman still sends my heart a-flutter on a daily basis. Right, I'm off to the shops to buy some ingredients so I can prepare a special meal for my sweetie. He deserves it!

Right-o, I dunno if you have realised this already, but I have opened a shop on Artfire - it is kinda like Etsy, but I think it has potential to be better than Etsy. Now we just have to spread the word about it!

I have started listing some of the things I mentioned in the last post, and at really low prices too. Now is the time to grab a bargain! There will be an assortment of softies, brooches, pincushions and more. Heck, even the Happyscape softie is there (if you remember that one!) Go have a look!

Friday 13th crazy ART SALE!

That's right! In celebration of the second Friday the 13th of the year, I'm having a small art sale. You can't find these anywhere else! Only right here on the blog.

1 Floral Fancy gocco print (in red) and 1 Happyscape of your choice (numbered 1-6) PLUS postage, all for £18 / US$ 25. And as if that wasn't enough, the first 2 lots to go will also receive some other gocco'ed goodies.

The gocco print is printed on lovely thick watercolour paper. The printed area measures approximately 13.5 x 9cm/ 5.5" x 3.5".

The Happyscapes are lovingly painted by me on watercolour paper with happy watercolours. The painted area measures approximately 18x12 cm /7.25" x 4.75"

To take advantage of this super offer, send me an email, telling me which Happyscape you want + your address and I'll send you an invoice. Simple as that! The offer goes all through the weekend. But first come, first serve!

The Happyscape below is NOT in the Floral Fancy + Happyscape offer. It is twice the size as the other Happyscapes, it's special! This is £10 / US$ 14. It measures approx. 28x21 cm / 11" x 8.25".

Why I'm not your customer

I was actually trying to fit this into a Twitter tweet, but it really can't be contained in the 140 character limit, so here's a blog post instead.

Dear online (Etsy) sellers: if you are willing to send outside the US (or whatever country they live in, but mostly it is the Americans who are guilty of this), please say so in the item description. If you want my business, you make it as quick and easy as possible to buy from you. I don't want to have to contact you to ask. Unless you sell something that is so unique, I'd have to travel to another solar system to get it. If that were the case, then I would contact you.

But by making me contact you, you put an extra step between my initial wanting to buy your item and me actually buying it. And, for me anyway, that is usually one step too many.If I can't get it (or atleast order it) straight away, I usually go somewhere else where I can get it right away. I might actually be willing to pay a teeny tiny bit more to get that instant gratification and to AVOID the HASSLE of contacting you.

If you don't say outright that you are willing to other countries, I will assume the following, in no particular order:
- you don't realise that other countries exist
- you don't realise that people in other countries use Etsy
- it is too much bother for you to find out how much it would be to send outside the US
- you can obviously do without customers from overseas, so why should I support you, or
- you don't want customers from overseas, so what's the point of contacting you anyway
- you just don't care

And if you don't care, why should I?

I can't tell you how many times I have decided not to buy from an online seller from this reason alone. My dear husband probably appreciates this fact! But seriously, if you want my custom, make sure that I know. Don't make me have to ask (beg?) to become a customer.

What do you think? Does this sound familiar? Are you turned off (and away) by US/other only listings?

Another blanket

Ack. Tony is still sick and I am not feeling too great either. Fun times, eh? But the show must go on, so I just about managed to list this happy number in the shop. I lurrrrve it, I really do. But you know I love colour so it is kind of a given!

Time for some food - chip butties because 1) we can't be bothered to cook properly and 2) it is a comfort food of sorts and 3) we haven't got great appetites at the moment. Hope you're having a better weekend! :-)

Polka & Bloom

Hey guys! I am soooo happy to share this news with you: I have a new shop! It is called Polka & Bloom. Please take a moment to check out if you don't mind.

Of course that is what all the crochet activity in the past month and a half has been all about. Here's a better view of that stack of small / baby blankets. They look so lovely together. Even if I do say so myself! ;-)

More will be listed in the coming days, but for now, please meet: Zingy Raspberry.

For now, the shop boasts only two kinds wares: the blankets and crochet brooches. But I have lots of idees for other things. Just have to see how things turn out. Please help spread the word about the shop! And: quoting "I LOVE POLKA" in the 'note to seller' will give 15% discount until the end of February!

Please put on your lifevests and answer a few itty-bitty questions

What a shame I didn't go to London today, it is a (cold, but) beautiful day here. Fingers crossed it will be the same tomorrow.

Anyway.

I would like to pick your brains on something. If you don't mind! What with the new consumer protection act in the US and the fact that most of the things I make are kind of, mostly, aimed at kids, I have decided that, for the moment, Etsy is not for me. Which is why I've sorta shut down the shop. So, what to do now?

And this is where I want to ask you a few things: do you have an online shop (not Etsy) at Folksy or Dawanda (or elsewhere) or Big Cartel? What do you think of it? How is it working for you?

Also, as a customer (and here I'm assuming that you've tried buying from an online indie / crafty shop), does it matter what currency the prices are displayed in? Does it matter 'where' the shop is, i.e. stand-alone, Etsy, Dawanda (you name it).

And, how do you come across the items that you end up buying? Do you randomly search the internet? See it on other blogs? Do you search 'umbrella' sites like Etsy etc? Do you see them on Flickr? And what are the deciding factors that actually makes you hand over cash for indie / crafty items?

You can probably guess that I intend on opening shop again in some form. I do, I do! The last couple of months has really made me think hard about what I want to do, what I want my life to be like. And although I haven't got a big ol' master plan or anything, well, selling handmade loveliness is pretty high up there!

Previously, I think my shop has suffered from both my items being scattered in many different disciplines (because I love trying and learning new things!) and me not being very focused on it in general. But I want to take it seriously, I want to take ME seriously and work hard at creating something positive in the world.

So, I think I have narrowed my focus (that is not to say I won't expand eventally, hey!) to things I enjoy making, even for hours every day. Things I know I can make well, because that is very important to me, the quality. I have experienced buying things that didn't quite live up to the standard I was expecting, like a pretty print printed on very flimsy paper. But quality standards is probably a discussion for another post, eh?

For now, I hope you will/can help me by answering the questions above. Help me push the boat out - I'll do my very best to row it in the right direction!

Sale and zero postage in the shop!

Hey guys, I've decided to celebrate our upcoming nuptials by reducing the prices of most of the listings in my shop. But that's only half of it! There is no postage to pay!

Please spread the word about this to anyone you know - the more goodies that fly out the door, the more gelati we can eat in Rome! And, there's even more: if the buyer mentions this sentence: I love icecream in the message to seller I will send him/her/it a pretty surprise. :-)

These are some of the things you can find in my shop at the moment: crochet brooches, gocco prints, Happyscapes etc. Look forward to seeing you there!

The no postage happiness is on until we get back from our honeymoon in the middle of October. I will of course ship your item as soon as possible after your purchase. But purchases placed after September 19 will not be shipped until we are back.

Let's do a project together!

Remember I mentioned the 1001 journals project a little while ago? (sorry, I'm too lazy to find that post right now, so I'm counting on you having a good memory!) Well, I recently got some new sketchbooks, including one intended for the journals project. So if you're (still) interested, get in touch so we can get it under way! This sketchbook is not hardback, but is quite sturdy, and the paper is great (Acid-free 140gsm. Extra wet strength). It's from my favourite sketchbook makers (seawhite in Brighton.) The nature of a project like this means that only one person can end up with the finished objet d'art, so what I was thinking we could do is scan all the pages (which we have to do if we go through the 'official' site anyway) and then make them into a book using one of the print on demand sites.

The book has 19 spreads, so that's the maximum number of people who can join in. If we're less than that, some of us get to take an extra turn. I'm still considering exactly how to organise it all. I guess it also depends on how many of you want to play, right? It would be cool if lots of you would like to play, though! :-)

And you don't have to be able to draw or anything. If you want to write something or make a collage that is awesome. It really is mostly about making something and inspiring each other. The taking part is what matters. Please leave a comment or email me if you want to take part!

*** ***

I have listed a couple of new things in the shop, my colourful embroidery and a completely new thing. Gocco'ed bookmarks! I really love them! There are 2 sets of those available. :-)

*** ***

Earlier today I put up a new post on the Feeling Stitchy blog, maybe you'd like to check it out; it has a challenge! :-)

Here, there and everywhere

So, I didn't go to London. But it's ok, I got some long overdue tidying done and that is GOOD. Not as interesting as looking at art in the big city, but there we are, enjoying the very simple things. Like looking at the lavenders which seemingly overnight have become all spiky with shoots just waiting to burst into flower. And the peonies slowly opening to reveal their true beauty.

I also put my name on the list to be a beta tester of Spoonflower (that fabric on demand site that all the kids are talking about). I mean, I had to, right?

If you feel like it, feel free to add me to your friends on Facebook (just search for my name). I am still trying to figure out what the heck you use it for. Other than waste time on silly games and stuff. I really don't get it.

Oh, I gotta just vent a little bit. It really annoys me when people on Flickr bulk invite ALL OF THEIR BLOODY CONTACTS to whatever group they are a part of. To me that's as bad as spam! And it also really annoys me when groups only have group descriptions in, say, Portuguese. Why can't you have just one sentence briefly describing what the group is about? That really turns me off joining a group. Especially if it's a group that has rules - how can you follow rules when you don't know what they are? Ridiculous.

Anyway. In an effort to try and reduce the ever growing piles of things I've made, I'm thinking of selling off these guys. The embroidery (mounted on canvas) for £45 incl. postage and the Happyscape for £25 incl. postage. Email me if you're interested. Tony would thank you, he wouldn't be sorry to see some of my creations go out into the world. ;-)

A proposition for you

For a little while I've been wanting to make some new postcard designs, but I can't really justify going crazy with that at the moment. But then I had an idea the other day. If you think it is a silly idea, please just ignore this post. But oh, I really do hope you dig it.

This is the idea: you buy a postcard and gocco print pack up front, before either of them have even been conceived. Oh, I know, it's a risky business, just like having kids, you don't know how they will turn out!

15 mixed postcards + 1 gocco print (the same size as the ones in my shop at the moment) + postage (£10 if you are in the UK or £11.5 if you are in the rest of the world.)

The gocco print would be a special edition, meaning that you would be the only ones having it in a particular colour. The postcards, well, I have loads of new ideas! Among them a mono or duo colour Happyscape. But I think I might also do a new batch of these two, just because I love them so: Bloom and Polka.

That's it. Tomorrow there's another interview. I hope you have a nice weekend. :-)

Brooches + feedback?

Hey, look at the Etsy widget over there on the right: I finally pulled my act together and listed some brooches in my shop. Yay! More will be listed in the coming days.

One thing that really annoys me with Etsy is the feedback system. What bugs me is that not all sellers leave feedback. What's up with that? I really don't get it. Isn't it in everyone's interest that you leave feedback no matter what end of the transaction you are at? Do you leave feedback when you sell something on Etsy?

Clap your little hands together for Tony, he's only got 1½ day left at his boring job and then he's got 2 weeks off before he starts his new one. He is very happy about this! :-)

Flowers for you

So... the last few days I've been moderately (let's not exaggerate, right?) busy crocheting with every colour I have in my possession. There's a steady pile of the blooms already and I've started making them into brooches. And that is a time consuming process (or maybe I'm just really slow..), because I'm not happy with just tacking the brooch pin on with a few stitches.

Oh no, it is an elaborate affair involving several pieces of felt and many, many stitches. Too many, perhaps. But I like it to look pretty, even if it is only the back and rarely seen, and I want to make absolutely sure it won't come apart. I like to think of the tailor in The Hudsucker Proxy who makes extra stitches in Mussburger's trousers as an example of solid work. It's not necessarily something you can see and you might not even know about it at all. But you know it's there, so be it if it takes a bit longer to make.

The two at the top will be on Etsy soon. Of course, if you've fallen in love with any of them, let me know and we can work something out. ;-) Oh and, speaking of the shop, I made a banner for it, let me know what you think, if you don't mind.

Icy pink blanket

I finished this blanket yesterday (it's only been a work in progress for a couple of months!) and I've just listed it on Etsy. So fingers crossed. In case you're in need of a baby blanket, you can find it here.

Contemporary granny blanket

I finished this baby blanket/afghan today. I really love it. I'm thinking that Tony and I should hurry up and produce some babies already, with the sole purpose of being able to wrap them in these soft lovelies. Although what to do with the wee ones once they outgrow the blankets, I really don't know. ;-)

I've decided that I'm going to put this blanket on Etsy. I'm still wondering what would be a fair price for it. Looking at similar type blankets on Etsy, there's a large jump in prices. Between $65 and $10 or something. How can you sell a hand crocheted blanket for $10?? That is ridiculous, you can barely buy the materials for that!

One thing that I've noticed is that a lot of the listings don't even include the kind of yarn used. And most of those which do, are made from some kind of acrylic yarn. Maybe I'm being a yarn snob, but using acrylic seems horrible to me. For so many reasons, but most importantly, because acrylic means it's man made and because, in my opinion, it's not even near as nice as cotton. Which is what I use for my blankets. It is so soft! Although a bit more expensive than the artificial stuff, so the price I end up with, will be on the pricier end. But then you get a pretty, and very unique, blanket in stead of those pastel horrors which there are too many of already.

Robots on tees

I was looking through some files on the computer last night and stumbled upon these robot guys and thought they would be fun on a t-shirt. So I went straight over to Spreadshirt and made a kids tee with all three of them. Isn't it cute? Wouldn't it be the perfect present for the little guys (and gals!) in your life?!
Of course, why do the kids get all the fun tees? So I made one for the bigger guys (and gals!) as well. But only with one of the robots. And now I'm thinking it might be fun to make more drawings and put them on tees as well. Stuff to think about...

I should be at work

But I'm not. I'm at home, feeling not so glamorous; I think I got a bit of what kept Tony home on Monday + a headache to boot. Fun. Well, to take my mind of that, I started a sewing project earlier and then I had the idea for these two t-shirt designs, which of course I HAD TO make, right?!

The top one is with breast cancer awareness in mind: if you buy one, 60% of the commission I get from it, will be donated to a charity working with breast cancer. I've not decided which one yet. Maybe a Danish one, maybe an English one. If you buy more than one, I will add another 1% to the donation, so really, the more you buy the bigger percentage gets donated! Buy the pink tee here.

The bottom is an autumn one, leaves in autumn colours. Just a wee simple design. I like simple. And colours, heh. During October I'll donate 15% of the commission from this tee, as well. So there's more than enough reasons for you to go get some kit! Buy the autumn tee here.

I need your opinion - please leave a comment!

Remember this baby blanket I made..? I have been thinking of making some to sell. But I'm not sure it would be worth it. It does take a decent chunk of time to make one, and I'm wondering if people would be prepared to pay for the time put into making it. I've had a look on Etsy to see what price similar blankets are listed at.

Most prices are in the $30-45 range. Which seems really low to me, unless these people are some kind of speed crocheters! Also, a lot of the blankets are made from acrylic yarn and I guess that's quite cheap? I don't like acrylic and I certainly wouldn't use it for a baby blanket. But maybe that's just me? I used a super soft cotton, and the material for a blanket of this size would probably cost me around $17 /£8...

So I'm wondering what would be a fair price for a blanket like this?

And on a completely unrelated note: what do you use as the middle layer in a quilt (I don't even know what that would be called!)? Are there cheaper things you can use as a substitute?

Me on DaWanda

How many shops does one person need? Well, I really don't know. But I reckon it makes sense to put your things in as many places as possible. So, I've set up shop on DaWanda. Which is like an European version of Etsy. About time too, we need something in Europe.

For the moment there's only one thing in my shop (the embroidered piece in the picture), but more is to come soon.

Label me

Hey, look at my labels! I've been thinking and thinking how I could make my own labels with a minimum of cost and labour, but with a maximum of flexibility. And these are what I came up with. I REALLY like them, and on Saturday (I hope), I'll tell you how I did it. With step by step pictures and everything! Can't do it before then, 'cause I'm busy making something...

More later!

Oh, by the way

The sale is still going on in my Etsy shop. A lot of cute stuff at very reduced prices. Most of the softies are half price!!

And speaking of softies, today I got an email saying I've been selected to be in this year's Plush You! So excited about that!

A wee happy SALE!

A post which has one purpose: to make you buy some things I've made! All listings done before March are rather more reduced than they really should be, but I felt like having a spring clean in the shop and so now you have a chance to grab a few bargains. For example, an embroidered robot onesie and several softies. Go spend your pocket money - or your kids'! ;-)

Buy some bookmarks!

These bookmarks are in my shop. Their listings expire soon, though, so I've reduced the price and thrown in free shipping just because I'm in a good mood! They're $9 each, which is quite cheap considering that they are embroidered by hand. Go pick up these one of a kind bookmarks, so they can get a new home! Aqua one is here, purple one is here.

Who knows, you might also get a wee surprise...

In the Treasury

Weee! My brooches were in the Etsy Treasury today. Not sure if any of my stuff has been there before - and of course I only knew about it because cilene78, who picked it, sent me an Etsy conversation to let me know!

I'm not sure if having your stuff in the Treasury makes any difference, except that it makes ya feel noticed in some little way. And that is really nice!

Maybe we should all notice each other more?! Give compliments more, and not be afraid to receive them either!

Snow over London

London pincushion
Originally uploaded by wardi.
Nah, not really snow, but a wee snow globe like pincushion. Ever since I made the Winter Wonderland one, I knew I had to do more. You know, the touristy kind of snow globe. What city should I do next?

It is very satisfying to stitch the snow, and I love how it feels to run my fingers over them. Cutting out the skyline silhouette was a bit tricky, and I'm not sure it is that obvious that it's London, unless you know of course. The silhouette goes all the way around the globe, so you really have to click on over to the Flickr set to see the rest of the 'sides'...

* * *

And here are the bunnies I've been hinting at. They'll go in the shop in the next couple of days. They are Easter egg cozies, but really, they are just as perfect for just standing around looking cute/pretty. There'll be three sets of four, with one of each colour.
Whole bunch'a bunnies!

What a lovely couple!

I felt it was my duty to share this picture of my parents with the world. Aren't they lovely? They went to a 50th birthday/fancy dress party this weekend and this is what they looked like. My mum is no particular lady with a sloppy attitude to her hair and my dad's costume is inspired by a character from a series of Danish films about the "Olsen Gang" - Danish readers may be able to tell which one?? The short trousers should be a dead give-away!

In other news, last night I was working on some Easter-y cuteness to go in my Etsy shop soon. I can't tell you how good it feels to get some crafting done again - the past week there hasn't been much of that going on here, as you know. So, if you like bunnies, stay tuned!

A wee bit of news

Or a big bit of news: one of my embroidered onesies (in fact, it's a brand new design!) can now be purchased at Little Boy Blue Boutique. I was approached by the owner who had seen a onesie in my Etsy shop and now it's all come together. Yay! Thanks, Breck! :-)

What is the worth of my work...

At the moment I'm in the process of figuring out a wholesale price for some of my stuff which I might be selling to an online shop. It's great, but it's also hard.

Very, very hard!

The price has to reflect the amount of time gone into making it, the materials, and, at least I think so, my idea, the brain work involved in the conception of the design/idea.

And I may also be responsible for photos of the item, and that takes time as well. Especially when you want it done well. I'm not happy presenting my creations just any old way. They are a reflection of me after all, right?

How do you put a price on the time that takes? You could say that it is completely free; I'm using the digital camera I already have, I don't have to hire someone to do it, there's no development of film involved. But it takes time to do some kind of set up, taking the pictures, maybe processing them on the computer. Time I could spend making new stuff!

So how do I make that a part of the price? If you have a shop, you have to pay for electricity, heating, advertising, not just your inventory, you don't expect your wholesalers to pay for your advertising, do you?

Am I wrong in assuming that my price should include a "photographer's fee"? In all likelihood, this 'venture' will be done by drop-shipping, so I will be doing most of the work: making things, taking pictures, shipping. The only things I won't be doing is putting stuff on the website in question. I don't want to sound too demanding, it's just what seems fair to me...

If anyone has any advice, please let me know (either in the comments or via email)! I'll be ever so grateful!

More Bazaar

Very Bazaar
Originally uploaded by wardi.
This is the other half of my stall at the fair. Perhaps you're wondering why one side is black and one is green? Well, I found out I had bought too little of the green fabric, and when I went back to get more, they didn't have any left!

But I love how it turned out anyway. And that way I had a "natural" division of the table: one for softies, felt and embroidered stuff. The other for bags, mobile cosies and baby stuff.

The green is very green, and I was a bit worried it might be too much, but I think it suited my things, and once there was stuff on it, it didn't seem quite as fluorescent!

There are a few things I think I'll do differently next time:

Put more stuff on the table; I had more of most things, but I was trying to make the table look "clean" so left about a third in the suitcase.

I want to get some business cards, that people can take even if they don't buy anything.

It would probably be a good idea to have small (paper) bags, cause some of my things are fairly small and it would be ridiculous to stick them in a carrier bag!

The hall we were in was really lovely, it was a great place for a craft fair; much better than a sports hall or something similarly drab! A

nd all the stalls had so many pretty things in them; what a shame I didn't make any money so I could have spent some there!

It was such a shame that so few people came, for whatever reasons, for all involved. In that respect it was a disappointment, but I still think it was a good experience. It was nice to meet other crafters (and bloggers; for example my stall neighbour whose arm you can just exactly see in the picture!).

I guess your experience depends on your expectations. I know how hard it can be to organize events, especially when you can't control every aspect of it and there are unknown factors.

And I think props go to Laura, the organiser, for putting this together in the first place. I can't wait for the next fair!

Sold!

The craft fair!

Very Bazaar
Originally uploaded by wardi.
This is half of my stall at the Very Bazaar at the BAC in London. Here are some more pictures of it and of some other stuff.

Because this was my first ever craft fair, I didn't really know what to expect, so tried not to have any expectations, and my criteria for a smashing success was to sell just one thing.

That may seem like a very small threshold for smashing, however the fact that I participated is a big success for me. Going out on a limb and all that; not knowing how people were going to respond to the stuff I make. I'm happy to say that the reactions were all positive!

I didn't sell a lot (didn't seem like most of the others did either, the turnout was rather small, unfortunately), but I did sell more than one thing, so I'm a happy bunny. And very happy that I participated!

I'll probably have more thoughts about this experience later, but this is it for now. Tomorrow I'm going to have a good ol' tidy; the flat is a right mess from the crafting madness that's been going on this week!

And I think T is going to appreciate that too! But he's been such a trooper - he's so supportive of me. He even came with me today and lugged the suitcase with all my stuff. Thank you, sweetheart.

The shop is open!

I am so happy! I've finally got my shop put together. It's simple, and a bit rough around the edges, but it does the job, I think!!

And I'm so happy with the design for it that I'll be rolling a similar look out over the blogs as well.

I hope you'll tell me what you think - and I hope you might find something for yourself or someone else in my wee shop. Thank you for looking!

My shop can be found here!
