Colourful 2009

Yep, I actually managed to get these done BEFORE the end of January. Very proud of myself. You can click on the image to take a closer look. While I figure out how they can best be turned into physical objects. Individual images in a .zip file? A pdf document? It's a shame I haven't got InDesign at my disposal, that would make things a whole lot easier. Does anyone know of an alternative to InDesign?

I kept putting off finishing this little project, because I wasn't completely happy with all of the initial versions and I wasn't sure how to proceed. And I had certainly rules that I "had to" follow. Once I scrapped those it got a lot easier! Sometimes rules are a good thing, other times they are pointless. I spent a lot of time fiddling with some of them but others just sort of came together without me doing much. Funny how that happens sometimes.

I am very happy with the result. And sad that they are meant to be seen one page at a time. They look so pretty all together like this; how could you possibly separate them?! But they might be a wee bit too small all on one A4 page? Or maybe not?

I can't believe I'm actually going to type this, but: I think my favourite is November. Which is neither here nor there, because I don't like grey, I think it is probably the saddest colour in the world! I am also rather happy with July, I really like the simplicity of it. What's your favourite?

Can't think of a title...

Hey guys, just a quick question: whereabouts is the journal at the moment? How is it doing? Please let me - us all! - know.

Also, I've got a few new interviews lined up! Which, of course, I am super excited about. I hope you are too! There are some very lovely ladies to get to know in the coming weeks.

By the way, would any of you happen to know a good place (books) to start if you fancy learning more about screen printing?

The Travelling Journal Project

I finally got round to making this button for our journal project. It took me AGES because, well, it just did. Ha. I hope you like it. And I hope you'll use it. If you do, please save it to your computer and upload it to the interwebs. If you need help adding the button to your blog, here's how.

You can follow the progress of the journal on the google map I created. To be able to keep it up-to-date, please make sure you let me know when you receive it. It has already visited Jen in Hertfordshire, UK and (as far as I know, is still with Nichole in Greensburg, PA.

Here is the rest of the itinerary: 1. Jen F, 2. Nichole, 3. Jen R, 4. Solveig, 5. Lindsey, 6. Nicky, 7. Jen S, 8. Carina, 9. Camilla, 10. Jenn, 11. Viv, 12. Jo
Once we've all had our turn, I'll randomly pick the seven who'll do a second spread.

If you have any problems while I'm away (like losing the address of the next link in the chain or life gets in the way so you can't participate after all), please contact Solveig (solopop AT gmail DOT com) and she'll do her best to help. I have emailed all of you the address you will be sending it on to. Except for Jo, because I don't know who the next (random) link after her will be.

I think I've got this all sorted for now. As you can probably imagine, I'm just tying off a few ends before Monday. :-)

Ready to go travelling journal project

If you're reading this in a reader, I'm sorry that I keep renewing the same post, but this is the easiest way of making sure that everyone sees the stuff I add to this post. ;-)

Right-o, before I send off the journal to the first participant, I just want to make sure I've not missed anyone who wanted to play. So here are the people who have sent me their (mailing) addresses:

Solveig ::: Jen L ::: Nichole ::: Jen R ::: Jen F ::: Nicky (no blog. Yet?) ::: Miss Stacey ;-) ::: Jo ::: Jen S ::: Viv ::: Lindsey ::: and then there's me.

If this is all of us, it means that you lot will all get to do 2 spreads in the journal. Woohoo! Since we are now 12 people in this, only some of you will get to do 2 spreads - I'll pick those people at random once we get a bit closer to everyone having done their (first) spread.

And I'm hoping you will all agree to these few "rules":
- use something from the envelope you receive the journal in
- please send me an email when you receive the journal; I'll set up a map (google map, perhaps) so we can keep track of it. At least I think this sort of thing is fun. Control freak that I am!
- if you all think it is a good idea, I'll set up a Flickr group for us to add pictures to
- you want a deadline, so here it is: you've got 2 weeks to do your spread. If you get it done sooner, don't sit on the journal (you really shouldn't do that anyway), but send it on its way as soon as it's ready!

Please email me if I've left you out or if you just decided you'd like to play - we still have room for a few more people, 19 total.

Holiday hiatus + Journal Project

My parents are arriving tomorrow, they are staying until Wednesday. Yay! We're going down to Salisbury and Stonehenge - my first proper holiday in England! Unless you count the week Tony and I spent in Scotland 4 (!) years ago... ;-)

So I won't be around until some time next week. Hopefully, I'll have lots of interesting photos to share (not just of a pile of old stones!).

In the meantime, if you're taking part in the Travelling Journal Project (you can still join!), please send me your postal address. I'll send it out once we're back.

Right, that's it for me for a few days. :-)

The travelling journal collaboration project

Ok, so how about we get that journal/sketchbook project type thing started already? As far as I remember Jen, Solveig, Jenn wanted to be part of it. There might be someone else, but I can't remember...

Anyway, you are more than welcome to participate! No matter what skills you possess or believe you don't possess. Draw in it, let your cat/dog walk on it, paste in photos, write about what you had for lunch or collage in it. You don't have to be an 'artist',you just have to be a human being!

There are 19 spreads in the journal I've got for the project, so that is the maximum number of people who can play (unfortunately). But if we get fewer participants, some will have to do multiple spreads (yay!)

Once the book is full, we'll/I'll scan the pages and make them into a print on demand book, so we can all have a copy. We'll do a random draw between us for the original. That's fair, yes? Unless we can sell it for some noble purpose? Which would be pretty cool.

Spread the word, it would be pretty awesome indeed if we could have 19 different people taking part in the project!

You keep the journal for a maximum of 14 days, then send it on to the next person. The quicker we can get it sent on, the sooner it will be done. ;-) Please email me (address is over on the left) if you want to play!

Let's do a project together!

Remember I mentioned the 1001 journals project a little while ago? (sorry, I'm too lazy to find that post right now, so I'm counting on you having a good memory!) Well, I recently got some new sketchbooks, including one intended for the journals project. So if you're (still) interested, get in touch so we can get it under way! This sketchbook is not hardback, but is quite sturdy, and the paper is great (Acid-free 140gsm. Extra wet strength). It's from my favourite sketchbook makers (seawhite in Brighton.) The nature of a project like this means that only one person can end up with the finished objet d'art, so what I was thinking we could do is scan all the pages (which we have to do if we go through the 'official' site anyway) and then make them into a book using one of the print on demand sites.

The book has 19 spreads, so that's the maximum number of people who can join in. If we're less than that, some of us get to take an extra turn. I'm still considering exactly how to organise it all. I guess it also depends on how many of you want to play, right? It would be cool if lots of you would like to play, though! :-)

And you don't have to be able to draw or anything. If you want to write something or make a collage that is awesome. It really is mostly about making something and inspiring each other. The taking part is what matters. Please leave a comment or email me if you want to take part!

I have listed a couple of new things in the shop, my colourful embroidery and a completely new thing. Gocco'ed bookmarks! I really love them! There are 2 sets of those available. :-)

Earlier today I put up a new post on the Feeling Stitchy blog, maybe you'd like to check it out; it has a challenge! :-)
