Scary creative space

Yes. That's my desk. Scary, huh? It looks like that on a regular basis. It's a wonder that anything can actually get done at this desk. But it does. I'd say it's more a sign that stuff does get done, because if I weren't making/doing stuff, there'd be no reason to have all this stuff lying around, eh? Anyone else 'guilty' of this kind of creativity 'pile-up'?

More creative spaces this way.

Orange creative space

Lots of orange in the creative space today. Which, by the way, was me, solidly planted on the sofa while listening to Eros Ramazzotti. Nothin' like a bit of Eros on a cold October day. :-)

New embroidery in the works. Should be done very soon, hopefully. And, working on a copy of something my grandma made. There'll be a proper post about that at some point...

And... lunch. Although that wasn't in the creative space. But the colours sort of match. And it was a yummy lunch. Leftover chilli between two slices of Tony's homemade bread. Simple and awesome.

More creative spaces chez kootoyoo. Go check 'em out. :-)

Creative space

Lots going on in my creative space aujourd'hui. A bit of embroidery and some felt and tying up loose ends. And some sketching of things to come very soon. Hopefully.

Speaking of embroidery. I am working on the 'leftie' version of my embroidery book and I was wondering if anyone would like to test it for me? I need someone who is left-handed (duh!) and someone who wants to learn embroidery (double duh!) Also, I need the tester to get some feedback, er, back to me within 1-2 weeks... Anyone up for it? Email me if you're interested. :-)

More creative spaces right this way, yay!

PS - Can you believe it's October already?!

Diaster in the creative space

I've been finishing up some loose sewing ends today. Like these trousers. I am short so pockets that go half down my thigh is not the best look, so today I faced my fears and ripped open the seams to move the pockets up. You can see in the (crummy, sorry about that) picture how much I moved the pocket. It actually went ok. The stitching isn't perfect, but hey-ho. But I only got one side down, because, you see, my sewing machine is broken.

I needed to add some extra strength to the carry on bag I made a while ago. And I was almost done, I was literally mere centimetres from the finish line, when, horror of HORRORS, the needle somehow got loose and went straight into the [insert proper sewing machine term] wheel that holds the bobbin casing. At first I thought it was ok, just pull the needle out and carry on. But no. The needle has somehow dented that wheel thingy, so it keeps catching on the needle.

So. Broken sewing machine. I am currently looking for repair places in the vicinity*, although I won't be able to do anything until we come back from Denmark. But I am considering maybe getting a new machine - depending on what repair would cost.

No more sewing for me. Well, I'm bringing the trousers with me to Denmark so I can finish the job on my mum's machine.

More (happier, I hope!) creative spaces over here.

*If you know of a good sewing machine repair guy or gal in the south Essex (UK) area, PLEASE get in touch!

Scattered creative space

My creative space today... again it's a plural. At the dining table doing a bit of sewing with my gocco gal prints. Isn't it funny how it's usually more than one creative space? Surely I am not the only one who is scattered all over the place creatively?

This is the other creative space; at the computer. Working on a vector drawing for an embroidery pattern. Which will be part of the same project as the embroidery in the picure below. Can you guess what I am working on? ;-)

It is almost done, all will be revealed on Monday. So happy and excited about this! :-)

Secretive creative space

my creative space

My creative space today. Once again on the sofa with a bit of embroidery. No, I can't get enough of it. Making a couple of brooches - using the felt I bought recently. Yummy colours, making me happy.

And my space is a little bit secretive, something is hiding under all that green embroidery thread. ;-) Hopefully it will all be revealed sometime next week. Providing I can get my camera (or rather the batteries) to work. At the moment, I'm taking pictures with my phone. There's always something wrong some gadget at any given time...

More spaces from other creative folks right here.

PS - don't forget about the crochet blanket sale: £27 for each, including postage to anywhere in the whole wide world. :-)

Birds in my creative space

There's been lots of birds in my creative space of late and today was no different. Finishing up the last of the bunch this morning. Haven't got a lot to say today, really... So I'll just not say anymore and instead leave you with a birdie sneak peek. :-)

More creative spaces overhere.

PS - Therese is looking to swap away some of her yarn, head on over and see if you could be a match. :-)

Creative space

My creative space today. More embroidery, what a surprise! ;-) More patterns in the works, maybe. Maybe.

Embroidery is such a gentle thing to do, don't you think? And it's portable, which is very useful if you like to make all over the place.

I've been making stuff today!

Today was a lot more creative than last Thursday. I actually made something! Yay! I spent a good chunk of time on the sofa, working on some more embroidery. At long last a new Happyscape embroidery. It 'only' took me a couple of months! ;-)

I used some silver dmc thread in this, and it reminded me why I rarely use that. It is so tricky to thread into the needle. It is stiff and it splits and is generally not very cooperative! Any tips for using silver or other metal threads? I would like to use the silver one more, but I just can't be bothered when it frustrates me so much!

Anyway, this Happyscape doesn't actually have a name yet. The other one is called Spring, but this new one... not sure. The only thing I've thought of, and I'm not sure if I like it, is 'Happyspace - the desert island'. Probably because of the shells. Who knows.

So. Help! Leave a comment with a suggestion for the name and I'll send a random commenter + the Chosen One the pattern (once I get it done, that is, heh!) - I'll pick the name + winners on Monday.

My not so creative space

My goodness. What was supposed to be an hour's worth of work turned into an all day kind of thing. Just because bloody software wouldn't cooperate! If any of you are Scribus experts, I'd love to hear from you: Scribus keeps crashing, especially when I save a document!

I finally succumbed and downloaded a trial version of InDesign, which I can barely remember how to use, which took a wee bit to install and stuff. Oi. Don't you just hate it when tech misbehaves?

Anyway, I have managed to put together a pattern for the Tree of Life embroidery. Not terribly creative today, but I did play around with different colour ideas and stuff. I have done some cushion covers for my mum which are white embroidery on blue and that's the inspiration for this particular one. I 'owe' her another one, so I may just have to make her one of these. :-)

The pattern is available in my shops (Etsy + Artfire) or you can email me and we can sort it out directly. :-) Anyone who purchases this pattern (until June 30) and quotes "I wanna beat my computer with a stick" will receive an extra little embroidery pattern. :-)

And here's to hopin' that tomorrow is a bit more creative and bit less frustrating!

More folks with more creative spaces!

Creative space - now with baking

I've had several projects on the go in my creative space(s), one of them is this gocco print... all will be revealed very soon. I can give you one hint, though: tote bags. ;-)

And painting... also a work in progress.. Not so much a secret project as a 'not showing it until it's done' thing. Which reminds me, I think I've got a couple of paintings to show you... Oh that reminds me, can any of you recommend a book with pictures of Arctic animals?

Does baking count as a creative pursuit? Even if it's from a mix where you just add water and yeast? This is rugbrød, rye bread, which is something Danes eat a lot. You can buy soemthing similar overhere but it's nowhere near as good as what you can get in any Danish supermarket.

Anyway, I bought this mix in the Scandinavian Kitchen in London before Christmas (BEFORE Christmas!) and I only just got round to making it. But I do get it all to myself, because Tony doesn't like this kind of bread. Weirdo! ;-)

Happy creative space

My creative space is obviously not on the clothes horse, but here is my granny square blanket, taking a break from being put together. This part of the process is one I could do without, but I have come up with a method of joining the squares that is fairly quick, so another couple of evenings in front of the telly and it should be done. Can't wait to see it finished! :-)

This is my 'actual' creative space today: embroidering and making more Happyscapes while watching Il Postino. Has anyone seen this amazing film? If you haven't, but decide to do it, I strongly recommend watching it with the audio commentary by the director. Makes the film even more special.

I finished 3 Happyscapes today- that's got to be a new record! And I put them in the shops already. Getting 2 hours sleep apparently makes me hyper-active. ;-)

More creative spaces thissa way!

I heart my creative space

My creative space this Thursday. I've been making some Happyscapes lately. I stopped making them for a while, but now I feel the.. urge again. Maybe it's a summery thing? Need some Happyscapes... :-)

Also, working on a new freehand embroidery. I really like just stitching away with no plan in mind. I stitch (because I can, ha ha) because I like the repetitive motion of it. Like meditation...

Some of the other folks with creative spaces are finding accidental (or not so) hearts in their spaces... and there are some in mine too. Completely by accident, too! Lovely. :-)

Have a look at the picture over on Flickr - when I get a chance I'll do some notes on it. But right now I've got some dinner to make! Lasagne! Yay!

Prototypin' in the creative space

Happy colours in my creative space today! Ohh, but what can it be? The prototype is finished (there may be a post about it later today if I can get my act together!) and I am pretty darn happy with it.

And here's another thing I've been working on today - this morning when I got up at 5:30 with Tony! It is a wee sneak peek at a new embroidery pattern! :-)

Check out the other creative spaces through here. Also, check it out: my creative space was last week's favourite! :-)

Small but creative space

Hey, this was my creative space today; cutting a stamp that will show up in the tutorial for carving stamps (go figure). Carving letters can be tricky. Especially when you carve out the actual letters and not around them.

Tomorrow, hopefully, my creative space will involve my sewing machine, I think it is feeling a little neglected!

My creative space

I haven't got a designated creative space (apart from the one in my head, ha ha), so my creating is spread over a few places. #1 is the coffee table. Sketchbook and no less than 3 crochet works in progress + some stuff related to a secret embroidery project...

Creative space #2 is the dining table. Lots of pink going on there. Not a bad colour to have going, I guess. Altoids tin with 2 magnets serve as pin box /cushion. I realised that I can't be bothered to stick pins in an actual pincushion, throwing them into a tin works a lot better for me. ;-)

See more creative spaces (and people!) through this way.

PS - stop by the blog tomorrow - I am having a wee celebration of something.
