Freehand floral cuts

Just playing around with a sharp knife and some security envelopes. No idea or purpose, just working with my hands...

I say they are freehand, but some of them I did sort of sketch out before cutting. But I didn't follow the drawing exactly, so it still counts as freehand, right?

It's different from what I usually make. Although, I can't seem to help myself; leaves and flowers just come out of nowhere. ;-)

Scrappy spectrum

This is proof that sewing has actually taken place here today! Although, showing you scraps of fabric is not really proof of anything. I could just have cut some scraps so I could pretend to be sewing. But that seems like too much work, eh? Actual sewing is much more fun!

Hopefully, I can show you the fruits of this colourful labour in the not too distant future. :-)

Split ring note pad

I've had this idea in my head for a little while. I just wasn't sure exactly how to execute it. Then it hit me that using the split ring/binder ring would solve the problem of getting the paper onto the ring without ripping it. It's just a test for now - I had to use the new gocco print as well, right? I want to round the corners, but that's going to be a bit of work.

This is going to be handy for quick notes on the go. Better than lugging my big sketchbook everywhere. It's giving me a sore shoulder carrying that thing in my handbag!

And how's this for a funny coincidence; Sarah of the Small Object has just posted a similar thing! :-)

Yellow mobile - a tutorial

Don't you just love it when you have an idea that is REALLY simple and easy, but then it takes you FOR-LIKE-EVER to actually do it? Yeah, me too. I had the idea to make this yellow mobile thing BEFORE my parents came over, so we're looking at atleast 3 weeks ago. I did manage to paint some watercolour paper yellow. But that was as far as I got. Until the other day when I FINALLY got my act together and made it. And it's really quite easy. So easy I thought I'd make a tutorial for it! ;-)

Take some watercolour paper and paint it with your favourite colour or another colour or a combination or use some coloured card. However if you colour the paper yourself it has the added bonus of both colour and white which looks rather nice. Cut your paper into squares and rectangles of different sizes.

Cut the corners with a corner rounder. You may need a small one for the smaller squares. Or you can skip this step entirely. I just like round corners and would like to apply them to more things in life.

Punch holes in your squares with a needle. Do some across and some lengthwise so you get a variation on the square theme.

Thread a needle and string your squares. Remember to tie the thread around the square at the top and bottom. I'm not sure how to explain this properly, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. And your method might be better than mine anyway. The point is, though, that if you don't secure the top and bottom, you'll end up with all your squares lumped together at the bottom of your string.

And that's it. Now you just need a place to hang it. I did this by sticking it to the shelf over my desk with a piece of clear tape. Rather clever, eh? ;-) The desk is right next to the telly, so the mobile is kept in motion by the heat from the telly.

Pears

Finally! Something I made! It's my very first ATC. Lots of stitching and I guess you could call it a quilt because there is a piece of felt in between the front and back. It was fun to make and I think I'll make more. It's a very portable format! Although, of course I sat in front of the telly while making this. ;-)

Last night we went to IKEA and do you think I could go home without these beautiful bags? Nope. It's a whole box full of bags in two sizes (25 of each). The red one is about twice as big as the green one. That design on the front is just awesome!

Edit: The bags are called Istad and they come in an almost completely plain white box. I can't remember which department we found them in. :-)

Decorated cup

I've had the idea of decorating this cup kicking around for a while. Yesterday I finally did it! I didn't have a design in mind, so I'm glad it turned out quite well!

It's my mum's cup. Why do I have then, you might wonder. Well, we only have mugs, but my mum prefers drinking her coffee from a cup, so last year we got her one in IKEA. Plain white. Very nice. But to me, white is just begging to be decorated! ;-)

'Mors kop' = mum's cup. I hope she likes it. And I'm thinking I might get a mug for my dad (he prefers mugs; aren't they a pair!?) and decorate it in a similar fashion. I wouldn't want him to feel left out. ;-)

I can only recommend doing this. It's fun and will make your porcelain unique! Also, I think it might be a nice project for kids to do. Not that I would know, I have no kids. ;-)

I hope you're having a nice weekend. We went round Tony's parents' for lunch and sat in their garden in the shade. Lovely. I want a garden!

Happy buttons

Another batch of buttons. Funny how a wee bag of colours like that can make you all giddy. But then, you know, colour can do that to you (i.e. me.) ;-)

And look, Susie, some proper reds. And greens. Fantastic greens.

I got them from the schOOLLOcker on Etsy.

Colours spilling out

I spent an hour this morning making these. Luckily, Tony had gone out on his bike so he was spared the loud banging noise that making these involves. They are for a specific project, but I do enjoy looking at a whole bunch of these happy felt bits.

This is the leftover bits which I think look really pretty too. I'm thinking of using them for something too, so as not to waste anything. But I can't think of anything right now. So: do you want them? They would be terrific as some kind of embellishment, I think. Anyway, let me know if you want them.

Colourful button love

Don't you just love colour?

How about now? I'm absolutely smitten with those two stripy yellow buttons in the middle. Treasure.

All organised and sorted into colours. I desperately need some more green and light blue and aqua and bright red.

Swarm + spray

We're bringing over a couple of English (rectangular) pillows to Denmark. It's a bit weird, I suppose; but it's because Tony is weird, he just can't seem to sleep properly with a Danish (square) pillow. So recently we got ourselves some new pillows anyway, and the old ones will go to stay in Denmark.

But you can't have pillows without covers, so we bought some cheap ones in IKEA and yesterday I decorated them. A swarm of Daleks for Tony and a gentle spray of ginkgo leaves for me. Did you know: I love stamping things?!
