Mmmm.. sticky!
He he he. I am right giddy, I am. Over something as silly as tape. Japanese washi masking tape. I've been wanting (no 'need' involved whatsoever, oh the frivolousness of it!) some of it for ages, but I was (im)patiently waiting for the right combination of spare cash, the best price and an occasion to use the tape. Well, I found the right price and I fancy using the tape on Sunday, so 2 out of 3 ain't so bad, huh?
I got it from the UGUiSU shop on Etsy, but there are LOADS of shops that sell this sort of thing. Just do a search for 'japanese masking tape' and be prepared to be overwhelmed!
The little package was rather pretty too, just look at those beautiful stamps. Why don't Royal Mail use nice ones like that? Usually, all you see are those boring solid coloured ones with the Queen...
Love the minicard as well, isn't it lovely?Labels: colours, oh so pretty

I felt colour
Don't you just love felt? All the lovely colours! I bought these recently, with the excuse that I needed some felt for a phone cosy for Tony. Most of these squares are 4.5", so it wasn't that pricey. Of course, I'm not sure if I can get myself to cut into them. I just want to sit and admire the colours... I got them from Pixie Rose - they've got 72 different colours!

Granny A Day - so far
I don't know if I need to say anything about these pictures?

So far, these are making me very, very happy. I can't wait to see what the next 20 will look like. I am going to crochet them together with a nice cream colour.

Stripes!
My new stripy socks. It was a case of 'must have' when I saw them the other day! These days I usually wear stripy socks (preferably mis-matched). Because it makes me happy. And I'm lucky enough that I have small feet, so kids socks are fair game for me!
And I am glad to see that someone else has excellent taste in socks too.Labels: colours

Unemployed? Yes. Bored? Hell no!
A bit of what I've spent time on in January. I'll show you more pictures soon. Right now I have dinner to prepare! Hooray for weekends! Two, nay three, whole days together with my sweetie.
Still no pictures of the 'makeover' from the other day. Light is simply too bad here at the moment. Our living room only has one source of light and it is about as far from the made over area as it can be. So. Boo.
Not that it's a terribly big make over, but it makes a huge difference anyway! Anyways, time to prepare dinner.
PS: can you suggest some animals starting with i and j? The following are no good: iguana, impala, ibex, ibis, jaguar. Need other ones, I just can't think of any...

Spectrum through lomo
The baby quilt I made last year. While it was still a work in progress. I like the fuzziness of the picture. I'm thinking of selling it. Maybe. I don't exactly need a baby quilt and don't know anyone else who does either. Help with pricing would be very much appreciated.Labels: colours

Orange makes it pop
Crocheting away earlier, I happened to put some colours of yarn together in a very pleasing way.

Hope you've had a nice weekend!
Inspiration can come from the strangest places, huh?
I'm off to Denmark tomorrow evening on some dress related 'business'. Which I'll tell you about... later. ;-)
Of course, I have to go to work first tomorrow, so it's going to be a veeery long day! 10-16, then rush home, change, have some food and then off to Stansted. Landing in Denmark at 22.20 local time. I'm hoping to do some plain ol' relaxing in Denmark + watch some Danish telly + maybe even catch up on some emails (?!)
Just wish that Tony was coming too. I don't like being away from him - even for 2 days! I'll miss him lots and lots.Labels: colours, inspiration

Patchy colours
This is still a craft blog. Honest, guv'! But I've just not had a lot of time to make anything. Well, nothing new and interesting, anyway. But I am still working on this once in a while. Still can't decide how big this is going to be. Big enough for our bed, perhaps. Cot sized? Lap sized? Just can't make up my mind.
But I can't work on it for too long at a time, because then the colour combinations go stale and predictable. And I want it to be fresh and pretty.
Like, grab a handful of scraps and use them together no matter which ones they are. Not always easy, because I find myself editing the scraps to find the 'perfect' combination. Which may or may not exist, but the point is I want it to appear on its own, not force it. If that makes sense...
I just posted a new, er, post over on Feeling Stitchy, which involves a new (so, I guess I was fibbing a bit above) embroidery project type thing that I've started. Quite fun.
Also, today I baked a cake! I usually leave the cake making to Tony, but today I thought "I am going to make a chocolate cake!" And so I did. I like having an idea that I can act on then and there. Instant gratification... ;-)

Colour + Cath
I saw a picture on someone's blog and there was a blanket (or something, I'm a bit unsure what it was, but the colours stuck!) in it and I can't get the colour combination out of my head. This is it. I think that would be a pretty neat colour combo for a blanket.
*** ***
Speaking of happy colours. Tesco is now collaborating with Cath Kidston to make some eco shopping bags. Tony (!) noticed this when we were in Tesco last night, but unfortunately they didn't have any left. And as we we're leaving I said to Tony "I bet there are some people who have bought a load and stuck them on ebay". I am sad to say that I was right. The sad part being that the proceeds from these bags go to Marie Curie Cancer Care, and I think it is rather vile that anyone would exploit this. They really should be ashamed of themselves.Labels: colours, inspiration

Pretty + pile
These are the larger scraps from a little project I'm working on. I have a carrier bag full of other scraps and I'm thinking "oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to make a quilt using only the scraps!" Yes, I'm sure it would. But perhaps right now isn't the right time? Although, if I hand stitched the scraps together it could be my 'mindlessly keeping my hands busy in front of the telly' project. Any tips on hand stitching?
Seeing those colours and prints together just makes me terribly happy.
And here are the scraps from the scraps. They look quite pretty too, in all their randomness! But they are going in the bin. Mostly, they are too small to make much of anything.
And here's my current pile of library books. Slightly obsessed. ;-)Labels: books, colours, inspiration

Accidental inspiration + legs + henges
Sometimes at work I notice interesting colour palettes. This is (sort of) one of them. I can't remember where it came from, but I do remember frantically writing down the colours on a scrap of card so I wouldn't forget them. I probably won't use this for anything. Or maybe I will. I guess the point is mainly to not let these brief moments of inspiration get away...
Today was Tony's Big Bike Ride. He did the 60 miles (100 kilometres for us continental Europeans) in 4 hours 40 minutes which he was pretty happy with! I am happy too and very proud of him. But now he is quite tired of course, and will probably have very tired legs tomorrow.
In a little less than 3 weeks my parents are coming over for a little holiday with us (yay!) We're going down to Wiltshire to see Stonehenge, which I am really looking forward to. But what else is there to see down there? We will probably go see Woodhenge, Avebury and the West Kennet Long Barrow as well (and Salisbury), but it'd be nice to do something a little more contemporary, if you know what I mean.... Any nice museums/shops/vistas/towns not to be missed?Labels: colours, inspiration

Colour play
I have been playing with the Color Palette Generator, these are some of the results. Some of them are rather surprising.

The yellow makes it work
Pretty colours in the bathroom. But wow, it was a pain getting a half decent photo of them, because there's no window in our bathroom = zero daylight, so I really had to tweak the colours with the Gimp. Oh to have a bathroom with a window. Looking out into a garden. With a small vegetable patch. And pretty flowers...
I'm working on a skinny scarf at the moment, it's almost done. It's not for me, but I really rather like it! Maybe I'll make one for myself for winter. I don't like a lot around my neck, it feels like I'm being strangled. But maybe something like this would work. Hmm.
Right, quick phone call to my mum and then I'm off to work. Cheerio!

My little house is happy
Look, these are the ink pads I got at Hobbycraft at the weekend (they were on offer, £6.99, they'll go up to £9.99, but you might still be able to nab them at the reduced price, if you are so inclined. They are some lovely colours, huh?
This is what they look like in my sketchbook.
And speaking of sketchbooks -or journals- have you heard of the 1000 journals project (journals set free in the world for people to fill in and maybe they come home, maybe they don't). Now there's a new one, the 1001 journals where anyone can send a journal out into the world and you can share with anyone or a group of people.
So I was thinking, would some of you be interested in 'sharing' a journal (sketchbook, whatever you wanna call it)? You don't have to be able to draw or paint or anything. You can collage or write or embroider the pages..anything... Any takers? ;-)
Did I strike gold or what on Tuesday? I was walking down Berwick Street when I stumbled upon a lovely little art supply shop. Of course I had to go in! And look at this: 45 watercolour half pans for £20. Considering I paid 1.35 for a single one in Hobbycraft... Oh yeah, SCORE!
Anyway. The reason my little house is happy is that first it showed up on the fab blog allsorts (which I think you should read!) and then it popped up* on Cuteable (also fab and read-worthy!) It's funny, because it's ages since I made that little house, but lately I've been thinking of plush houses again.
The secret life of Star Wars action figures. Very cool. Can't remember where I found the link...
*Thank you to the lovely Kristal of rikrak for letting me know about this one! :-)Labels: colours, sketchbook, star wars, supplies

Happy buttons
Another batch of buttons. Funny how a wee bag of colours like that can make you all giddy. But then, you know, colour can do that to you (i.e. me.) ;-)
And look, Susie, some proper reds. And greens. Fantastic greens.
I got them from the schOOLLOcker on Etsy.

Colours spilling out
I spent an hour this morning making these. Luckily, Tony had gone out on his bike so he was spared the loud banging noise that making these involves. They are for a specific project, but I do enjoy looking at a whole bunch of these happy felt bits.
This is the leftover bits which I think look really pretty too. I'm thinking of using them for something too, so as not to waste anything. But I can't think of anything right now. So: do you want them? They would be terrific as some kind of embellishment, I think. Anyway, let me know if you want them.

Spools + skeins of colour
I wonder why, but I felt like playing around with the colours of the rainbow. These are the results. Although I'm pretty sure there are other things that could be ordered in a similar fashion...

Not for boys?
So I've started making some little doggies for my mum. This one is for a baby boy, but my mum might not agree with me that deep orange ears and tail are suitable for a boy. What do you think?
Of course, I think that it's the perfect colour; because it's a happy and bright colour = perfect for kids. And all this 'oh no, you can't have anything even remotely red/pink for a boy (or blue for a girl)' it really pisses me off. It's not like the kids are going to care, is it? Oh dear, I can tell that this is a topic best stayed away from this early in the day or I'll go to work grumpy... ;-)

Five stitches + the rainbow
I think I got the embroidery bug again. Which is very lovely, I think I missed it more than I realised. But crochet is so addictive, you know. ;-) This is a thing I've been stitching in front of the telly for the last 4-5 days. It is so relaxing. I'm using 5 different stitches and (almost) all the colours of the rainbow. Nothing pleases me more than using lots of colours, and add to that the wonderful feeling of running your fingers over the stitches. I think I've mentioned that before!?
Oh and yes, my needle is slightly warped. It's not really supposed to be, but I like it that way. ;-)
Since you want to know, I'm using the following stitches: French knot, cross stitch, daisy stitch, Danish knot (I think that's the name, anyway...) and small straight stitches.Labels: colours, embroidery

I used the tag 'turquoise' in the Mosaic maker to see what might come out of it. I like the randomness and the prettiness, but especially that it's not all completely turquoise !

I guess I like green, then!
When we were in Denmark, I bought a green t-shirt and last night I was wearing it and T said "green is your colour" and then he fell asleep.
Tonight when we were having dinner, I asked him "so you think green is my colour?! But pink is my favourite colour!!". And he just laughed and then he proceeded to point out all the green stuff I/we have, saying that I'm always, always attracted to green stuff.
I insist that we have green things for the kitchen: tea towels, plates, utensils - even the washing up liquid!! And most of the vases we have: green! I picked all of them!
Isn't it weird? All this time I thought pink was my favourite colour, when maybe it was green all along... 'Cause looking around the flat, there are loads of green things (but also quite a few pink ones!).
But it's not just any green I gravitate towards, it's vibrant lime and bottle greens. And dang, do I ever go for those! The mosaic above shows the kind of greens I dig. Just looking at that mosaic makes me smile... so maybe green is my favourite colour..!

Balls of inspiration

A benefit of having a three year-old "nephew" (apart from the obvious ones: he's cute and funny), is that it gives you access to toys. I love taking pictures of toys! They are so fun and colourful and just make me smile.
Plus, I think they can be really inspiring. For example this picture of balls in a paddling pool - just look at those colours! - this could be the inspiration for a painting, or embroidery or a quilt.
I like taking pictures of everyday things. Cause, you know, they were designed too. And just because we see and use them everyday doesn't mean they are any less worthy of notice or recognition than "design" or "art".
In fact, maybe they deserve more recognition, cause they have to stand up to being lived with everyday, not just when we fancy looking at something pretty...Labels: colours, inspiration

Dress!

Aw, I didn't win the Whiplash bag competition. Oh well, better luck next time.
Yesterday I got a new dress, it is so so pretty, it has flowers on it. Just look at that picture! Isn't it perfect?? It's from Monsoon; I love their clothes, but usually it's too expensive - thank the Force for whoever invented the SALE!
I'll be wearing it at my cousin's wedding next month. Although to be honest, I wish I could wear it all the time, everyday. Remember when you were little and you just wanted to wear your favourite dress ALL THE TIME?! (Well, I guess this only relates to the gals reading this...)Labels: colours, oh so pretty

Thinking of pink
I love pink, it is no secret to anyone who knows me.
Well, I'm going to take pictures of pink during July. Pink, pink, pink. There must be even more pink things in the world, than I actually notice (although I believe I'm quite tuned in to it...), if I start looking for them.
Anyone wants to celebrate pink with me??
Like I haven't got enough projects for July!

Red Friday

Red as gem stones
Originally uploaded by wardi.
Red is one of my favourite colours. Though not quite up there with pink, you know!
Red means energy to me, and creativity as well. Red attracts my attention, makes me curious. And I'm wondering why letterboxes are red. Atleast they are in Denmark and here in England. In other places too, I think...
These are some of my earrings. The red ones are from California, I bought them when I visited my sister and her husband last year. They remind me of the great week we spent there. Most of it at my brother-in-law's parents' house.
Go here to see some more red pictures. Among them some of my other earrings, from the late 80's/early 90's. I had some of those fruit ones!!

Blue Thursday

Blue as a soap dish
Originally uploaded by wardi.
Now we're getting to some colours I can relate to better than the previous three days.
Blue. Not my favourite colour, but combined with white, especially on porcelaine, I really like.
I found this soap dish in a thrift shop along with some other bowls with similar colours. And they were in a box outside the shop, all dirty from road dust. They just had to come home with me!
Tomorrow is red Friday.

Black/grey Wednesday

Grey as a dragon
Originally uploaded by wardi.
T likes dragons a lot. He has quite a few. They are all pretty much the same colour; like this one. I don't care that much for them, but this one made a surprisingly good photo subject I think.
T's mum doesn't like the dragons - I think she was glad to see the back of them when he moved away from home. And maybe puzzled that I don't mind having them around the flat...
Well, considering all the flowery and pink crap I fill the house with, I think there's roomfor a few dragons. They are also my sign in Chinese astrology, so I guess I shouldn't mind them much. ;-)
Grey is a strange colour. To me anyway. It's not very colourful...I rarely use it -maybe I just don't know how to control it- it usually turns everything into mud.
More colour week photos here. Tomorrow is blue.

Brown as a paper bag

Brown as a paper bag
Originally uploaded by wardi.
Continuing with the colour week, today is brown. Brown is not a colour I use a lot. But after spending time with it today to take the photos... I think maybe I can find a use for it.
And I do like burtn sienna a lot.. maybe because it reminds me of chocolate...
This bag is from a Danish shop (it's in other countries too, in Scandinavia) which I love! It has all those cool things. Anything between vases and washing-up liquid, paint brushes and tea and everything in between.
The rest of my brown photos are here.

White

Week of colour: white
Originally uploaded by wardi.
There's this meme -I guess you could call it- going around the interwebbynet. It's called Color week, and it's started by little birds and mav.
You have to take pictures of things in a certain colour each day. Thus today it's white. The rest of the week are: brown, black or grey, blue and, finally, red.
The first three are somewhat... odd colours for me. I rarely use them. Especially black is virtually banned from any colour box I have... We'll see what I come up with.
This photo, well it's jewelry. The large daisy used to belong to my (maternal) grandma - now I've sort of permanently borrowed it from my mum. It's quite special to me. The other daisy is a brooch which was a present from my paternal grandparents. So that is also special.
I actually like this photo - it seems so (errr) white and clean. Maybe white isn't so bad after all...

Blue porcelaine bowls

And these were just old ones I found in a second-hand shop - they don't have to be posh expensive ones to be special.
