Tony's yummy scrummy pale brownies
If you've been reading the blog for a little while you have surely noticed that my dear husband is quite the baker, bread and cakes (oh! the cakes!). Here is a new recipe he came up with for a different kind of brownies. They are sooo yummy. Gooey, but not too much, just the right yummy amount.
Ingredients:
115 grams softened butter
100 grams milk cooking chocolate
170 grams caster sugar
100 grams plain flour
2 large eggs
2 tea spoons vanilla extract
1 tea spoon baking powder
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Grease cake tin and line with grease proof paper. Melt the chocolate.
In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla extract and melted chocolate. Add flour and baking powder (sieve if you want), mix well.
Pour into cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes. Prod with skewer to check it's baked all the way through. Leave to cool and dust with icing sugar if you feel like it. Cut into squares and enjoy! With a cup of tea, Tony would probably say! ;-)

Black and white cake
We made this cake last weekend for Nephew's after-birthday party on Sunday. It's a lemon drizzle cake, the same we had for our wedding. My part of the actual cake baking was grating and squeezing lemons. But after it had been iced, that's when I got to have some real fun. With icing sugar and BLACK food colour. Awesome. And it really was black.
The picture you see here is at the point when Tony thought that was plenty of decorating. But I still had plenty of icing left and it'd be a shame to waste it! Right?! So I added a bit more to the border. I mean, I had to, right?!
We both really like watching Ace of Cakes and maybe we are secretly wishing we could have that job... ;-)

Cake and stuff
Finally got this picture off my phone. It is the cake we made for Mother's Day last weekend. We. Made. That! Well, Tony made the cake, we iced it together and I made the flowers and leaves. It was very well received! I wouldn't mind making cakes all the time with my sweetie.
But how many cakes can two people eat on a regular basis? ;-) I think we are going to have to make a fancy cake when we go to Denmark. It is rare to have the opportunity to make this sort of thing for my parents - better make the most of it...

Do you have easy access to Speedball Speedy-Carve (or Speedy-Stamp)? It is a pink block (6"x12") of eraser like material that you use to make stamps with... I can't find it anywhere here that it is not really expensive. The one place I've bought it from before, it is out of stock. Boo. If you are able to get your hands on some, maybe we can do a swap for something handmade, some fat quarters of vintage Danish fabric or a Happyscape or something? Happy to re-imburse you instead, as well.
Don't forget that there is 15% off everything in the shop all this weekend!Labels: cake, just stuff

Birthday with cake
I spent a couple of evenings filling a piece of card with flowers.
And then I cut it into tags. An idea with potential, I think, but way too labour intensive. But maybe a hand-coloured gocco'ed version? Is gocco ink water resistant?
Oh and can you guess what this is for? Apart from a pretty bad photo... ;-)
We spent a nice, nice afternoon with Tony's family. I took loads of pictures of the Nephew and Niece, but I'm not letting those loose in the world unsupervised. I think, though, that you can gather from this photo what a cutie-pie the Niece is?
I almost forgot to show you this. Tony made this. He's becoming quite the cake maker. I'm very proud of him. But you knew that. Right?
It's a Sacher Torte and it's very, very rich. Tony made up the icing himself. Did I mention that I'm proud of him? I got some really nice books as presents, I'll show you those some other time. This post is already long enough and now I want to go read those books!

Lemon-y heart morsel
As you might have realised by now, Tony is quite the cake baker (and yes, I did actually look up those links!) and yesterday he made Lemon Drizzle cake. Oh. My. God. That is one yummy cake! But then, I am a sucker for lemon-y, lime-y tasting treats.
And speaking of lemon treats, I've got some pancakes to make for tomorrow - I won't have time to do it tomorrow because I may go on a small adventure to London to a) do some drawing, b) possibly look for a dress, and c) go check out this exhibit at the V&A: Out of the Ordinary: Spectacular Craft. I love the V&A, it's so amazing, but one thing I really dislike is entering it through the underground entrance. They've got some guard type people there, to search people's bags, but it isn't exactly clear if everyone has to be searched or what. So I always walk straight past them, pretending they're not there, because if everybody is supposed to have their bag searched, then they should bloody well make that known to people. But because I try to avoid eye contact with them, I feel like they think I'm some kind of criminal with intentions of running off with the entire silverware collection! Of which I have no intentions; polishing silver is a bloody nuisance! ;-)
Anyway, back to those pancakes. And I'm sorry if this post has been a waste of time for you, it does seem rather pointless, so maybe I should just delete it already. But then, that would make it even MORE pointless, so there we are.
