Punk rocker and beer

I can't get this song out of my head: Sandi Thom's* "I wish I Was A Punk Rocker"

I do like this commercial, I like the music and the dance moves... The music is by the Flaming Lips, btw.

*If you go to Sandi Thom's website you may experience that it freezes the other tabs in your browser (if you're using Firefox...). It really pisses me off when people make websites in flash that could just as easily have been done without. Goddammit people!

I'm Madonna!

Apparently. Atleast when it comes to decorating - according to this quiz over at iVillage.

"a place where cozy kilim-covered sofas, family silver, and sporting prints meet... state-of-the-art sound systems and luxuriant hothouse flowers." Besides mixing aesthetics, you aren't afraid of thought-provoking art. (Madonna collects Frida Kahlo pieces among others.) Everything in your home represents the relationships you share with the people in it".

And you know, it doesn't sound all that off... ;-) I'd like to be able to afford Frida Kahlo paintings...

AND

Apparently my tastes are ruled by Artemis in Which domestic goddess are you?

"You are your own interior decorator, a collector, eclectic in your tastes. Those mix-and-matched plates and napkins you've been using forever reflect your individuality perfectly. Bright colors (think pinks and greens) in patterns and stripes appeal to your inner goddess. Your favorite room is apt to be lightest, brightest room with the largest windows -- no fussy curtains for you, just bright sunlight, the perfect place for a spur-of-the moment gathering".

That sounds right too...especially the pink... ^_^ Fits nicely with Madonna too..

But not any old car. Nay, this is Hermann Göring's old 1939 Mercedes-Benz W153.

Well, the auction ended without the reserve of US$85,000.00 being met. Weird, isn't it? ;-)

Postman Pat and his black and white cat

Package from mum
Originally uploaded by wardi.
Ok, I don't know the name of the postman and I'm pretty sure he didn't have a cat with him... however, he did have a nice package for me yesterday. It was so heavy and I could just TELL that it was full of goodies.

Sometimes you just KNOW these things!

It was from my mother - I knew she was sending me a package (some of the stuff I had asked her to send me), but I had no idea what lovely-y-nesses it contained!

There was some fabric, and some fabric paint - those were the things I knew about - almost 30 (THIRTY!) skeins of embroidery wool, some glansbilleder (dunno what to call those... it's little images, that are kind of shiny..), some other paint and a small bag of ribbon in different colours.

But the biggest surprise was a pair of sandals! The woman sent me sandals! Can you imagine my surprise! And they are pretty and sparkly with sequins and just totally my kind of thing!

Here's a picture of all the stuff, and you can just about make out how cool the sandals are. ;-)

Work it

Don't ask me why I wondered how many calories the brain uses, but here's the answer.

Simply to survive, your brain requires a tenth of a calorie per minute. Compare this with a walk to the doughnut shop, when your body burns approximately four calories a minute. Kickboxing zaps 10 calories a minute. And when you’re hunched over a crossword puzzle? Your brain is blasting through a respectable 1.5 calories a minute. {link}

Aren't you glad I'm here to tell you these things??

Phew

I've finally got my own computer re-installed. Now I *just* need to install all the programs and move the files back from the external harddrive.

It's funny... installing XP a-fresh was no trouble at all. Even the instructions for it is just a small booklet. If I'd had to install a OS some years back I would have needed not only a much, much thicker manual, but quite possibly also a technician. ;-)

Hmmm... after having used T's PC for the last two weeks or so, I find I have to think to remember where the keys are - my keyboard is Danish and his is English, funnily enough..

So, I'm back, and that's pretty good news, I think, but if you head over to the crafty blog, there's some other happy news... ;-)

Sankt Hans

Today is Sankt Hans aften in Denmark - or St John's Eve - it is celebrated by burning witches (in effigy!) on bonfires all over the country. There are (sometimes) speeches and people sing. It's really great.

This painting by the painter P.S. Krøyer is a nostalgic representation of Sankt Hans aften for most Danes, I think. It was painted in 1906, so exactly a hundred years ago. Obviously, people don't dress like that anymore and the bonfires look somewhat different as well - notice the absence of a witch! But it's still how we imagine the perfect Sankt Hans evening.

But it's not perfect every year. The first time T came to visit me, was around this time of year and I thought it'd be nice if we went to Skagen (where this painting was painted. It's at the top of Jutland, the main part of Denmark, a very beautiful place.).

Well, it was pouring down most of the day. We went to see a big sand dune before going to Skagen and my trousers got soaked to the skin, so I had to sit in the car and wriggle out of them - luckily I had brought a skirt in case the weather improved. Ha!

And we weren't sure when the bonfire would be lit, so we sat on the beach for what seemed an eternity, and it was so cold. It really was a pretty miserable experience.

But looking back it was quite memorable and I think that place will always be special...

Happy Sankt Hans!

Bubbly

I'm sitting here feeling absolutely bubbly happy and content. Out of the corner of my eye I can see my beautiful bucket of peonies - oh they are my favourite flowers! It amazes me to see them bloom, from those little bulbs come these huge, incredible and delicate flowers. I actually have a kimono with peonies on - they look just like the ones in our living room!

But I digress, cause although the peonies greatly enhances my sense of joy, they are not the reason for it. No. That springs entirely from me! Today I've been doing an awful lot of sewing. For me anyway! And it feels good to have made something.

Working with my hands feels so good - I can only recommend it!

There'll be pictures of my efforts on the craftblog later. PLUS a wee tutorial for something pretty YOU can make!

We have an England flag outside our 'balcony' doors - a flag that I got for T. Isn't he lucky to have a girlfriend who puts up with silly things like the World Cup non-stop football hell?? Encourages it even!

Anyway.. it's really, really windy here today so the flag is really flapping about, and the sound reminds me of being on holiday with my family, with the wind tearing at the tent in front of the caravan.

Sometimes the littlest things remind me how much I (still) miss Denmark...

Originally uploaded by wardi.
Yay, the little rose bloomed. It was so pretty!

Well... I've spent most of yesterday finally tidying my computer, moving things to the external harddrive - or burning them to cd's, there wasn't room for everything on my 40GB ext. harddrive!! So much crap!

But some of that has been deleted and I hope I can be a bit more consistent in filing things on my computer. Cause before I didn't have a system, you see how that makes it difficult to maintain even a modicum of order!

So now it's just about time to get everything re-installed. But I think that's a project for the both of us. Men like to tinker, fix things, don't they?? Atleast that's what I'm counting on. ;-)

Cool tip

Are you getting enough to drink when it's hot?? I'm not very good at remembering to replenish the fluids in my system...

Anyway, I had an idea to keep my drink cold for longer in this heat. I put my glass in the fridge when I had emptied it!

It makes sense if you think about it. When you put a fridge-temperature drink in your fridge-temperature glass you don't lose any of the chill to the glass, which would happen otherwise if the drink and the glass had different temperatures.

I bet there's a scientific model that can prove this! ;-)

Now if I could only remember to drink as much as I really should...

PS. There are a few new posts coming on the craftblog - if you stop by why not leave a comment to let me know?? Hint, hint. ;-)

Well, I sat in the garden doing embroidery, but I also took a lot of pictures of the flowers in their garden. So pretty. I can't wait till we get a house and a garden.

Ok.

So I took this picture of this little blue guy - or rather almost ten pictures before I got one that wasn't blurred or otherwise unsuitable. And I was going to post it yesterday, but then the combined forces of Flickr and Blogger wouldn't let me. Much to my chagrin!

Well, here he is. Or she. I don't know anything about butterflies. How can you tell the difference? Is there one?

I find portraits quite diffcult to do. When you're srawing/painting other things, you can take liberties with the "truth", but a portraits needs to look somewhat similar to the person!

So I rarely do portraits - which of course is the fastest way to not get better at them! - but this one I'm rather fond of. I did it late at night while watching an interview with this chap*.

Maybe it was the late hour, so I was a bit tired, but I seemed to be able to forget that I can't do portraits, and just paint what was there, what I was seeing in front of me.

Possibly it helped that I only used white and two blues, so I wasn't distracted by the actual colours.
