Multi-colour

Going through my pile of magazine clippings, a small multi-colour checkered piece and that inspired this. Satin stitched squares. Quite meditative to make, but I don't think I'll take it much further than this for now. Not sure what I'd make with it. Although this one is in the final stages of being turned into a brooch. Maybe.

And it just occurred to me that it kind looks like those coloured things that decorated military folks wear on their jackets when they are not wearing their actual medals. Anyone know what they are called?
