I am always a work in progress
Working on a self portrait. In theory, that shouldn't be anymore difficult than drawing/painting anything else. You observe light and dark and paint corresponding light and dark on your canvas.
But theory is one thing and reality is another entirely. Because portaits are of people and people have all these little quirks and, oh dear lord, a personality. Making that come out of the light and dark is very difficult indeed. Maybe that's why I don't do portraits in general. ;-)
This is just the very first step. Changes have already happened. The right eye, for example, looks way too big in this picture, but that has been fixed and the eyebrows as well. One thing I am wondering at the moment is whether to add colour or leave it white with burnt umber and yellow ochre (the current colours).
We'll see. That is, after all, the nature of a work in progress.
Hope you're having a happy weekend. :-)Labels: painting
