A blog button how-to

It has come to my attention (thanks, Liz!) that not everyone is down with how to add a button/badge type thing. So I guess I better explain it, eh!? ;-)

It is pretty easy. First you copy the button picture to your computer and then you upload it to the web somewhere. If you're using Blogger, one way of doing this is to create a new post, upload the button picture to that post, go to 'Edit HTML' mode, copy the code/text that looks like the bit I've highlighted below, yours will of course not be absolutely identical, but you get the idea..?

<.a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.wardi.dk/uploaded_images/buttonhowto-790733.png"><.img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="htp://www.wardi.dk/uploaded_images/buttonhowto-790725.png" alt="" border="0" />

(My example looks a little bit different to what you will actually see, because Blogger automatically reads it as code and that is not very helpful for us!)

Ok, once you've copied that bit, you can delete the code and pretend that blog post never existed. You don't need it any more.

Next, you need to go to where you can play around with your HTML code. In Blogger that is called Template (I'm sorry, but I only know about Blogger, so I'm sticking with explaining it for that. If you get completely stuck trying to add it in another blogging platform, email me and I'll try and help you as best as I can). In your template you need to find the '<.body>' (it won't have the '.' in it, I just have to add it so silly old Blogger won't make it invisible) part of the code and in that the 'sidebar' bit (at least that would be the logic name for it) you type the following
and in the bit that is highlighted you paste the code you just copied. Now save your changes and republish your template and you should be done! A wee word of advice, if you're a bit scared that you might mess up your template, copy and paste the whole template code into a Notepad or Word document and save it. That way, if you do mess it up (of course you won't, you're pretty smart, right?) you have a back up.

I hope this rather convoluted post makes sense and helps you in some way. If not, feel free to email me. Oh and, this doesn't only apply to adding my button, it's the same for any button.
