So generous

It's almost time for Comic Relief (a.k.a. Red Nose Day) here in the UK and lots of companies are participating in this charity by donating some of the price of their goods. And that is great!
But then I saw this at Sainsbury's when we did our shopping on Saturday. Coke in special red bottles to symbolise the red noses. So far so good. Actually, not so good. I was really, really disappointed to see that they are only donating 3p from each (£1.46) bottle to the charity. That's what... 2%??
Ok, an enourmous amount of cokes are sold on any given day, but c'mon, fricking TWO percent?! You'd think Coca-Cola made enough money to donate at least 10 percent!
It sometimes makes me mad that you can somehow buy your way out of feeling guilty about not donating to [whatever] good cause, by buying something where a tiny percentage goes to charity. Like in this case with the cokes, there's two for £2.50, so not only are you getting a 'bargain', but you're donating to a charity.
But a pittance! It's like people are not really committing, taking a responsibility to change things, because they wouldn't be donating the 3p to the charity if they weren't buying the coke at the same time!
I don't know if that makes sense, my brain is a bit foggy at the moment, 'cause wouldn't you know it: I got a cold! So yesterday was a doing-as-little-as-possible day for both the boyfriend and I. Yep, he's not been back to work yet, we even went to the doctor on Monday to make sure it was just the flu. Our sense of time has been kinda screwed because he's been home this past week. Not that I'm complaining. I just wish it had been for a merrier reason.Labels: thinking
