Do you craft (or draw, or something similar) in public? If you do, good for you!

If you don't, why not?

Today I was on the bus, waiting for it to take me home from work, and I wasn't really sure when it was departing, so I thought I'd do a bit of knitting, 'cause I had taken my newest knitting project with me in case I had some downtime.

Last year I doubt I would have done something like that, but now I don't really think about it.

Except that I was thinking about it. I was thinking why is it so hard to get over that barrier and just do it? How is knitting, for example, different from reading a book or a magazine in public? It's something you enjoy and it isn't a nuisance to anyone.

Are you (we) afraid of what other people might say when they see us doing something arty-farty like drawing or knitting? I've thought about that, and it's kinda silly. People don't care much about what other people are doing, generally, so they are not likely to even notice.

And even if they do notice, most people will mind their own business anyway. If they do come over to look at what you're doing, in all likelyhood they will do so because they do or make similar things and are genuinely interested in what you're doing. Nomatter what (their or) your skill level is.

If they say something, it will probably be something positive and encouraging. However, if they do say something negative, they are only strangers after all and their opinion doesn't count.

Well, that's my point of view, anyway. ;-)
