I was watching some news about the passing of famous British footballer, George Best, and I'm wondering a bit about the outpour of feelings for this man.

I mean, yeah, he was famous and all that, but why do people get so worked up about a man they didn't know? It's like what happened when Princess Diana died. All those candles, teddy bears and mountains of flowers. And showing grief for someone you've never met.

It's very odd. It's almost like people need a public figure like that to release emotions, that they might not otherwise show.

I prefer crying for people I know, not some stranger off the telly, football icon or not.
