Geek news...and links

You may have heard that Adobe and Macromedia are to become one. You may not care about this, and even if you do, but didn't know, now you do. And that didn't make any sense whatsoever, and I apologise. Anyway, I think this is interesting news. Whether it's good or bad, only time can tell. And it hasn't happened yet, as such. They have to run it by their stockholders and governement rules for such acquisitions. {Here you can read the press release}

I'm getting stuck into some accessibility issues as that is something I really want to implement in the new design. This probably wont affect what you see here, unless you are one of those for whom designing with accessibility in mind has..erm.. effect.

Poke the penguin. It is well worth it to poke the penguin more than once... If you like that sorta thing.

YaGoohoo!gle. Two-in-one!

Star Wars Chicks. Because I am one! (No, this is not a site with pictures of scantily clad female characters from SW, sorry, boys).

Etymologically Speaking. Oh I can't even begin to tell you how fascinating I find the origin of words. Especially words you use every day and which seem not to have any logic to them at all! For example:
From the Greek "barbaroi," meaning "babblers," used to mean non-Greeks, i.e., people who didn't speak Greek; from the sound that the Greeks thought they were making: "bar bar bar bar..."

HogafflaHage Horse Choir. Click on the horses and they will sing. But they wont stop again.

Mung. Lots of little animated films. I particularly like the ones about Space Boy. Oha nd the one about E.T.!

The Forbidden Library. Exactly what it says on the cover (haha, really bad pun intended!).

byokal. An interactive toy that's like a kaleidoscope. And it just dawned upon me what kaleidoscope actually means. Look, beautiful!

dtoy vs byokal. Like above, but more advanced.

This is no ordinary ping pong game. In fact, it's the oddest one I've ever seen.

bo logh. Don't say I don't cater to all you trekkies!

Communication skills. Or how to give your emails a WHOLE NEW meaning. We can all learn from this. Oh and, doesn't that guy remind you of Jim Carey?

Eric conveys an emotion. This has been around for positively ages, but hey, it's so funny it's worth mentioning again!

Jpg 2 Asc. Turn any jpg image into ASCII! Nifty!

Gum Blondes. If you like blondes (and gum) this is for you. Fascinating and gross all at the same time.

What's that stuff? Ever wondered about what's really in hair coloring, Silly Putty, Cheese Wiz, artificial snow, or self-tanners? C&EN presents a collection of articles that gives you a look at the chemistry behind a wide variety of everyday products.

Speaking of ASCII, check out these ASCII animations. Some people just have way too much time on their hands!

Squashed Philosophers. The books which defined the way The West thinks now.
Condensed and abridged to keep the substance, the style and the quotes, but ditching all that irritating verbiage

Celluloid Skyline. We all think we know what New York is like...don't we?

Why McDonald's Fries Taste So Good. Or not.
